Born and raised in Worcester, Earl V. Atchue, Jr. graduated from Saint John’s High School in Shrewsbury and Assumption College in Worcester. He began his insurance career as an account representative for the former American Mutual Insurance Company of Boston in 1977 and spent five years with the company before leaving to establish his own independent insurance agency.
In 1982, Atchue Insurance Agency was born and opened its first “office” in Mr. Atchue’s home in Worcester, employing at the time only a typewriter, telephone, answering machine and one filing cabinet. As Atchue Insurance grew in size and became fully automated throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Mr. Atchue moved his business to Worcester offices in Tatnuck Square and Northern Park Avenue before purchasing and settling into the current location at 190 Park Avenue in 1995.
A Licensed Insurance Broker in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, New York and Rhode Island, Mr. Atchue is also a Licensed Life Insurance Advisor and is happy to assist clients – both old and new – with all forms of insurance needs.
Mr. Atchue is a past president of the Worcester Life Underwriters Association (WLUA), the Massachusetts Association of Insurance & Financial Advisors (MAIFA), and the Massachusetts Underwriters Foundation, Inc. He has been a speaker at several industry group meetings as well as a presenter at various other area professional groups, including the Worcester County Bar Association Real Estate section.
Earl managed and coached youth baseball in the Paxton Little League and West Side Babe Ruth for 18 years. He and his wife, Nancy, have three children: Andrew (“AJ”), Kevin, and Daniel.
In August of 2015, Mr. Atchue’s son, AJ Atchue, re-joined Atchue Insurance full-time and is a Licensed Broker of Property/Casualty and Life/Accident/Health insurance products. AJ, who previously spent his high school and college summer/winter breaks from 2000-07 working at the agency in administrative support roles, returned immediately following three years working in the Commercial Lines processing and underwriting office of Harleysville/Nationwide Insurance Company in Worcester.
A graduate of Saint John’s High School and Quinnipiac University, AJ also spent four years as Coordinator of Communications at the headquarters of the American Hockey League in Springfield, Mass.
